NPC (None Player City)are also known as Barbarian Towns, and they can be attacked at any time without offending hostile alliances. Different levels of NPCs indicate the level of strength within the barbarian's fortress.
Also, Barbarian Towns don't ever attack cities but they may attack your transports. More clearly, if you try transporting to someone of high prestige and you have barbarian cities near you, it's believed that there's a chance of your transport caravan getting attacked by barbarians.
If they succeed your transport caravan will be taken out, whether it be transporters or warriors and so on. They will all be killed and the resources will be taken. The resources don't show up in the Barbarian Town though. Yes you will be notified of this.
Anyway here are the list of troops I send to attack and plunder NPCs to support the food needed by my troops and medals which I usually got..

Here I would like to advice that we should not try to attack or plunder NPC level 6 to level 9 as most of the time I tried I lost some of my troops. If you are attacking NPCs for resources just attack Level 1 to Level 5 NPCs with the number of troops mentioned above and you will not lost any of your troops...
Some people say a NPCs will fully generated it resources in 3 hours but some says in 8 hours... Anyway just watch out for the NPCs loyalty level... if its is close to 0 then do not attack it... unless you want to conquer it!
