No matter what... No matter how huble you are.. Being attacked in Evony is unescapable. One day it will happen. There are a few steps you can do to minimized your damage and lost.
Firstly, the way you see you are being attacked is in your reports. When you are being attacked, ie. Enemy troops are on the way to your city, then the dove icon that is the reports icon will flash pink. This is letting you know there are enemy troops on the way and you need to do something.
Clicking the reports button will open the reports window where you will see a list of attacks. There might be one attack, there might be more than one. You can click on View for each attack to see how many troops are being sent.The level of description in these reports comes down to what level your Beacon Tower is. Having your Beacon Tower at a high level is a must to have as much information as possible when you need it. Like when someone is attacking you!
One of the big strategy questions when playing the browser game Evony is whether to Open your gates. This is done by a small tick box in your Rally Spot. When ticked, what it does is when your city is attacked, your troops will help defend your city. Without the gates open, your walls will take the full brunt of the attack.

This is a major strategic decision. If you are attacked, and the oposing force coming in is much more than your troops can handle, then it would be wise to close your gates and let them hit you. Let them take some resources, but your troops that took time and patience to train still live.
If your troops are more than a match for the enemy forces, then open your gates and let your troops help defend your city, this will cause less losses overall, and less losses of towers and other wall emplacements.
So you’ve decided you want to hurt your attacker by killing some or all of his troops. Theres more you can do. You can Reinforce your city. This is another massive tactical part of the game of Evony. Reinforcing your city can be done a few ways.
Reinforce your city from one of your own cities.
This can be done through the Map screen by first selecting the city you want to send troops from, then clicking the city you want to send your reinforcements to and click the Reinforce button. Then you can chose what number of troops to send.
A big tip when you’re doing reinforcements is to send as much food as the troops can hold. Once they get to the new city, they are going to be hungry and they are going to put extra load on the food services of the reinforced city. Sending troops with food helps this a little bit.
Evony Allied Troops
The other way of reinforcing your city is to get a member of your Alliance to reinforce you with their troops. First you need an embassy and in your embassy there is another little tick box for allowing troops of allied members to garrison in your city. Be careful with this as their troops will eat your food.
In your Embassy is also where you can send your alliance members troops back. This is highly recommended as remember, they’re still eating food! So after the attack hits, make sure there aren’t any more coming, and then return the reinforced troops back.
After the attack, you might also want to send your own troops back to their city if you’re running out of food. This is done in the same way, reinforcing your other cities with the troops to send them over.
